About this course
The course traces changes in men’s and women’s clothing from ancient Egypt through the early modern period, examining garments as products of their historical cultures. It considers how fashion was shaped by materials, manufacturing methods, economics, politics, class, war, revolution and wider cultural change. Teaching combines lectures, slide presentations, activities and group discussions, with handouts provided to support the course.
