About this course
Participants paint from direct observation of still-life objects, making both quick studies and more extended paintings. Demonstrations and tutor-led discussion introduce approaches including colour washes, tonal underpainting and expressive brushwork. The course combines individual painting with group discussion and regular detailed feedback. It also examines how different painters use particular techniques, while giving participants opportunities to develop work through reworking and sustained observation.

Before you go
- Recommended materials include acrylics, watercolours or oils, brushes, suitable paper, a sketchbook, pencils, an eraser, PVA glue, gummed tape and a drawing board.
- Participants are also recommended to bring simple still-life objects with a range of colours and textures.
- The classroom is accessible only by stairs and has no lift access.
