AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping

About this course

The course introduces single-entry bookkeeping through explanations, discussions, worked examples and individual practice. Participants learn to check transactions, complete daybooks and cashbooks, prepare sales invoices and credit notes, and carry out bank reconciliations, including analysed records. Teaching combines tutor guidance with structured activities and regular verbal and written feedback. Learners also complete an end-of-qualification computer-based assessment, supported by practice tasks and sample questions during the course.

Is this course right for you?

This entry-level course is intended for adults with little or no accounting knowledge, including those returning to education or considering bookkeeping for work, further study or a small business. Participation includes tutor-led sessions, individual practice and independent study between classes.

• English, maths and basic IT skills at Level 1 are expected
• A short maths assessment may be used if these entry skills are not met
• Regular independent practice is expected alongside classroom learning

Before you go

• Course activities use a PC.
• Learning resources, sample questions and revision materials are provided through Microsoft Teams and the MyAAT learning portal.
• Additional Learning Support may be available following an interview, including in-class, small-group or one-to-one support.
• Reasonable adjustments, assistive equipment and access support may be available through the Disability Officer.
