ABRSM Music Theory Grade 6

About this course

The course follows the ABRSM Grade 6 syllabus, with particular attention to harmonic understanding in major and minor keys. Teaching combines tutor presentations, explanations and demonstrations with written, listening and practical exercises. Learners work both individually and in groups, applying their knowledge to questions from ABRSM past papers. Topics include chord notation, Roman numerals, figured bass, four-part harmony and the harmonisation of diatonic melodies.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners progressing beyond ABRSM Grade 5 theory and working towards higher ABRSM theory grades. Elementary keyboard skills are essential, and the course involves individual and group work, regular written study and weekly homework. Aural musicianship development alongside theory is advised.
