Abstract painting: studio projects to extend creative exploration

Intermediate and advanced painters explore abstract art through studio practice, discussion, demonstrations and independent project development.
About this course
The course examines traditional and contemporary abstraction through practical experimentation and theoretical discussion. Sessions introduce techniques associated with different artists and movements, alongside demonstrations, presentations, guided exercises and critical analysis. Participants can test painting mediums, colour approaches and methods for generating imagery before selecting processes to develop in their own project. Group critiques, peer discussion, reflection and one-to-one feedback support the development of individual ideas. The course also allows participants to bring an existing project for guidance and to work towards a more independent, self-directed practice.
