About this course

The course develops academic English for Access courses and higher education. Learners read and examine different forms of writing, practise academic conventions, and build study skills through individual, paired and whole-group activities. Online resources and other technology are used to support language development. Work includes planning reports or essays, editing and proofreading drafts, preparing notes for presentations, and delivering a presentation in pairs. Regular English practice and homework form part of the learning process.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners preparing for Access courses or higher education who have ESOL or English Level 2, or above. Participation includes individual work, paired presentations and whole-group activities. An assessment test and discussion with a teacher take place before enrolment.

  • Requires ESOL or English Level 2, or above
  • Includes regular English practice and homework
  • Good attendance is identified as important for progress
  • A pre-enrolment test and teacher discussion are required
