Access to Functional Skills Maths L1/L2

About this course

The course develops knowledge across the Functional Skills Maths L1/L2 syllabus, including arithmetic, fractions, percentages, ratios, decimals, negative numbers, order of operations, geometry, measurement, circles, statistics, probability, maps and scales. Learning is supported by classroom assessment tasks, tutor-marked homework, written and verbal feedback, and an Individual Learning Plan. It is non-accredited, with a certificate in Access to Functional Skills Maths at Level 1 or Level 2 awarded on successful completion.

What you'll learn

• Apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and order of operations
• Work with fractions, percentages, ratios, decimals and negative numbers
• Calculate area, perimeter, volume and compound measures, including problems involving shapes and circles
• Interpret averages, data and probability
• Use maps and scales in mathematical problems

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners who have already achieved Maths Entry Level 3 or Level 1 Functional Skills and need further preparation before taking a Level 1 or Level 2 examination. It involves regular attendance, weekly homework, independent study and participation in assessments. An interview and initial assessment help determine the appropriate class and identify individual needs.

• Learners should be able to attend at least 90% of lessons
• Weekly homework and study outside class are expected
• Additional support may be available for learning difficulties or disabilities
