About this course

The course develops accordion playing across solo and ensemble repertoire, including classical pieces, standards, folk music, musette and tango. Teaching combines tutor demonstration with individual playing, group work and peer support. Participants work on accompaniment patterns, hand technique and bellows control, then apply these skills in solo pieces and performances with duos, trios and larger ensembles. Repertoire and exercises are used to strengthen musical understanding across different playing contexts.

What you'll learn

  • Create left-hand accompaniment patterns in varied musical styles, including counterbass use.
  • Apply exercises that develop right- and left-hand technique.
  • Control the bellows to produce a wider range of dynamics.
  • Perform solo pieces with musicality and effective bellows control.
  • Maintain an individual part when performing in duos, trios and larger ensembles.
