About this course
The course develops three areas of acoustic guitar technique through two arranged songs: movable barre chords, plectrum playing that combines rhythm and melody, and fingerpicking based on separate bass and melody parts. Learners also work on slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, Travis picking, music reading, guitar tablature and Roman numeral chord notation. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group tuition, playing alongside other learners, group performance and feedback. The repertoire provides a framework for applying the techniques in songs, including playing individually and with backing tracks.
What you'll learn
- Apply movable barre chords, change between them and navigate their positions on the fretboard
- Use a plectrum to combine rhythmic and melodic playing with slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs
- Perform fingerstyle patterns including Travis picking, with the thumb providing a bass line and the fingers playing melody
- Read music, guitar tablature and rhythm notation
- Use the Roman numeral system for chord numbering
- Play two arranged songs individually, in a group and with backing tracks
