About this course

The workshop develops acoustic guitar work across traditional blues forms and contemporary styles. Participants practise twelve-bar progressions in different keys and tempos, use minor pentatonic scales for soloing, and build ensemble arrangements from simple forms towards greater complexity. Teaching combines group playing with individual guidance. Sessions address timing, tone and expressiveness alongside techniques including string bending, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs, finger picking, open tunings and slide playing. Listening exercises cover chord recognition and anticipating changes, while physical exercises focus on hand and finger technique.

What you'll learn

  • Play twelve-bar blues progressions in different keys and with varied rhythmic approaches
  • Use minor pentatonic scales when developing guitar solos
  • Recognise chords and anticipate chord changes through aural exercises
  • Apply techniques including bending, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs, finger picking, open tunings and slide playing
  • Perform blues material in an ensemble with attention to clarity, timing, tone and expression
