Acting: Foundation (Certificate Level 2) Saturdays

About this course

The course develops core drama disciplines through practical work in acting, voice and movement. Teaching covers Stanislavskian methodology, naturalism, emotional recall, vocal and movement technique, and contemporary play texts. Participants work independently, in small groups and as an ensemble, applying their training to character, text and scene work. Learning includes regular practical exercises, feedback and some homework such as line-learning and related reading. The course concludes with a presentation of scene work to an invited audience, alongside individual exit tutorials and a sharing practice event.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level learners who ideally have completed a beginners’ and an improvers’ acting course, or have comparable experience. Entry is through audition, with participants expected to collaborate, communicate intention clearly and respond constructively to feedback. Regular attendance, preparation and occasional rigorous physical activity are part of the course.

• Applicants audition with a contemporary monologue from a published play

Before you go

• Loose black clothing is required for all sessions.
• Participants need to borrow or purchase five principal textbooks.
• Notepaper and a pen are required at each session.
• Some work is filmed for assessment, verification and moderation, with recordings shared with OCN and retained for verification purposes.
• Applicants should prepare a contemporary monologue from a published play, no longer than two minutes, for the audition.
