Acting: improvers

About this course

The course develops acting through exercises undertaken individually, in pairs and in groups. Sessions cover stagecraft, spontaneity, presence, truthful responding and approaches to building a character. Participants also examine and annotate text, applying acting techniques to scripted material. Work progresses towards rehearsing and presenting a scene from a play without scripts in hand during the final session. The course includes opportunities to work cooperatively with other actors and to give and receive constructive feedback.

Is this course right for you?

This improvers-level course is intended for learners who have completed a beginner’s acting course or have suitable experience. Participation involves working individually, in pairs and in groups, listening and responding to direction, reading text, and exchanging constructive feedback.

• Suitable experience may take the place of a completed beginner’s course
• Participants should be prepared to work cooperatively and communicate in drama practice
• The course includes a final in-class scene presentation without scripts in hand

Before you go

• Wear comfortable clothing.
• Bring a pencil and rubber for annotating scripts.
• A notebook and pen may also be needed.
