About this course

The course develops acting through practical text analysis, character work and detailed rehearsal of scenes. Learners apply their analysis in practical exercises, building and sustaining characters while refining scenes towards performance standard. Teaching uses a range of techniques and may involve individual tasks, pair work, small-group exercises and whole-group activities. The course concludes with a performance of scenes for an invited audience.

Is this course right for you?

This intermediate course is intended for learners with acting experience who can analyse scenes, work independently in rehearsal and respond constructively to direction and feedback. Participation includes individual, paired, small-group and whole-group work, as well as a final scene performance.

  • Learners should be able to analyse a scene and apply this analysis in practice
  • Clear communication and willingness to give and receive feedback are expected
  • The course involves working safely in groups and pairs
  • Learners should be comfortable reading and responding to varied texts

Before you go

  • Bring a notebook, pencil and eraser.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Photocopies of scripts will be provided, although learners may be required to secure scripts.
