About this course

The course examines how Shakespeare’s verse and prose, language, and textual devices can inform performance choices. Participants analyse monologues and scenes, then use practical exercises to investigate character and interpretation. Teaching combines individual work with pair and group activities, leading to rehearsal and in-class performance of Shakespearean scenes or monologues. The class also considers physical characterisation and the relationship between textual clues and performance decisions.

This improver-level course is intended for learners who have already studied acting, with the source specifying Beginners-level study plus an improvers course or equivalent experience. Participants work individually, in pairs and in groups, and need to commit to preparation, line learning and focused participation. Fluent English is required.
