About this course

Sessions examine how playwrights’ styles can inform the preparation and performance of classical and contemporary material. Participants work on monologues and two-person scenes, considering ways to move text from the page into performance and how to approach audition material, including cold reading. Teaching combines individual, paired and group activities. The course also includes discussion and analysis of texts, practical scene work, and opportunities to receive and apply constructive feedback.

Is this course right for you?

This Improver-level course is designed for learners who have completed recognised professional training or have some acting experience. Sessions involve individual, paired and group work, with participants reading texts, responding to direction and feedback, and contributing to discussion and drama practice.

Before you go

• Scripts and scenes are supplied.
• Participants may bring material or text they want to work on.
• Comfortable clothing and soft shoes are recommended for studio work.
• Bring a notebook and something to write with for script annotations.
