Advanced ceramics: glaze mixing workshop

About this course

The workshop examines how glaze materials interact and how recipes can be formulated, mixed and adjusted to produce different surface qualities, including glossy and matt finishes. Participants investigate oxides and stains for colour variation and create test samples to assess results and develop technical understanding. Teaching combines tutor presentations, practical demonstrations, discussion and individual feedback. Learners work at their own pace while reviewing their samples and refining their glaze processes. Decorative glaze application and surface design are not covered.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is designed for experienced ceramics students. The provider recommends at least three years of ceramics experience, so it is not intended for beginners. Participants work at their own pace, with opportunities for individual feedback, discussion and sharing work with peers.

• At least three years of ceramics experience is recommended.
• There is no formal assessment; progress is reviewed with the tutor.
• Decorative glaze application and surface design are outside the course content.

Before you go

• Learners are expected to follow studio health and safety procedures, including managing dust and spills and keeping their workspace, tools and equipment clean and safe.
