About this course

The course centres on repertoire selected by learners and the tutor, developed through weekly workshop presentations and rehearsal. Tutor feedback addresses musical interpretation, technique, ensemble communication and preparation, while class discussions allow participants to exchange ideas about the music. Learners also work with digital resources such as recordings, online videos and relevant mobile applications. Concerts provide opportunities to perform publicly, with performances recorded and assessed by the tutor, who provides individual feedback.

What you'll learn

  • Develop aural awareness and communication when working with other musicians
  • Refine musical interpretation, playing technique and rehearsal methods
  • Extend knowledge of chamber music repertoire
  • Prepare and perform repertoire in workshops and concerts

  • Entry is by informal audition, including two contrasting pieces or movements and rudimentary sight-reading
  • Regular practice between sessions and prepared work for each lesson are expected
  • Concert performances are recorded and assessed by the tutor

Before you go

  • Instrumentalists must bring their own instruments
  • Bring the music being studied and, if possible, an additional copy for class discussion
  • A pencil and rubber are required
  • Repertoire must be practised outside class, including preparation for concerts
