About this course

The course develops DJ technique through practical workshops, individual and group practice, listening discussions and note-taking during lectures. Topics include effective beatmatching, cueing, advanced EQ control and programming a DJ set for CDJ-3000s and vinyl. Participants also work with Rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro, record and film a live set, and practise playing back to back with other DJs. The course includes an overview of professional DJ work and the organisation of a recorded set.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners beyond the fundamentals of DJing, described as suitable for intermediate or advanced beginners. Entry information asks for basic knowledge of dance music and DJing, with completion of a beginners’ DJ Techniques course or similar experience.

Before you go

  • Participants are asked to bring a pen and paper, a USB containing their own music or their own records or CDs, and headphones.
  • Handouts and course materials are provided.
  • Advice on safe handling of cables, speakers, DJ equipment and consoles is given at the beginning of the course.
  • Earplugs are strongly encouraged because the course may involve high volume levels.
