About this course

Participants develop individual 2D and 3D glass projects using kiln-formed glass and architectural glass techniques. Projects are negotiated around each learner’s aims, with independent making supported by tutor guidance and peer exchange. Teaching combines practical workshop activity with demonstrations, presentations and discussion, while learners may also work collaboratively on group projects. Ongoing observation provides informal assessment, followed by a group presentation about the development of individual projects. The course also considers historical and contemporary approaches to glass and safe studio practice.

What you'll learn

  • Develop selected kiln-formed and architectural glass techniques through 2D and 3D project work.
  • Apply glass-making processes independently at relevant stages of individual projects.
  • Identify historical and contemporary approaches in glass.
  • Practise safe studio procedures while considering the safety of others.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for experienced glass learners working at an advanced level. It involves negotiated, self-directed project work alongside group projects, regular feedback and a presentation of individual project development. The provider states that it is not suitable for beginners.

  • A good understanding of glass processes and kiln-formed and/or architectural glass techniques is expected.

Before you go

  • Wear sturdy closed footwear and bring an apron or coveralls. A face protector and personal hand towel are also advised.
