Advanced jewellery and metalwork: refine skills through an independent personal project

About this course

Learners develop self-directed jewellery and metalwork projects while refining processes, materials, textures, surfaces and finishes. The course may also introduce advanced techniques such as furnace casting where appropriate, alongside consideration of jewellery’s relationship with the body and research-led design development. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical making, group discussion, peer learning and individual tutorials, supported by handouts, slideshows, video resources and written or verbal feedback. Learners work at their own pace and review their aims and progress through regular tutorial discussions and reflection.

Is this course right for you?

This Advanced course is intended for experienced jewellery makers with at least three years of jewellery-making experience. Participation centres on self-directed project work, supported by individual tutorials, peer discussion and feedback. Learners are expected to work independently while developing and reviewing personal aims at their own pace.

• There is no formal assessment; progress is reviewed through personal aims, tutor feedback and reflection.
• There is no expectation to complete work outside class.
• The shared studio cannot accommodate large-scale or mass production.

Before you go

• Basic materials, including sheet metal and wire, are included.
• Studio tools and equipment are available for learners to use.
• Precious metals and gemstones are not provided.
• Additional metals can be purchased on site by card.
