Advanced Piano Masterclass

About this course

The masterclass focuses on major piano repertoire at post-diploma level. Students perform several times each term and receive detailed work with the tutor, while typically three pianists perform during each session. Other participants contribute comments and learn by hearing a range of repertoire interpreted by their peers. Sessions address technical solidity, musical and emotional expression, stylistic and structural understanding, and communication with an audience. Students are expected to prepare their repertoire independently between classes, with regular opportunities for public performance.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for advanced pianists working at post-diploma level. Entry is by audition, and the stated standard assumes considerable pianistic technique, musical intelligence and sensitivity. Participants perform for the group, contribute comments on others’ playing and undertake substantial practice outside class.

Before you go

• Learners should bring the repertoire being performed, as decided a week in advance, and their own copy for written comments.
