About this course

Participants develop a portfolio of at least three solo pieces from classical repertoire, including operatic arias, oratorio and art songs. Each session combines individual masterclass work with feedback from the tutor, accompanist and other singers, alongside repertoire discussion and occasional group exercises. The main emphasis is on interpretation and stagecraft, with some attention to vocal technique, pronunciation in Italian, French and German, and working collaboratively with a piano accompanist. The course also includes drama coaching and opportunities to review audio and video recordings of performances.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for very advanced singers at Grade 8 or equivalent standard, including early-career professionals. The masterclass format involves individual performance slots within a group, peer feedback and preparation of repertoire for auditions or recital performance. Enrolment requires approval, and some applicants may be asked to audition.

Before you go

• Prepare one aria or song for the first session.
• Bring two copies of the music for the tutor and pianist.
• Participants may bring their own recording equipment, such as a mobile phone, or other materials for taking notes.
• Audio and video recordings may be made towards the end of the course for self-assessment; promotional use is subject to tutor approval.
