Advanced Writing: Developing a Book-Length Project (Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction)

An advanced writing course using lectures, discussions and feedback workshops to develop fiction or creative non-fiction book-length projects.
About this course
The course examines how long-form fiction and creative non-fiction take shape, with attention to form, voice, structure, audience, point of view, characterisation and dialogue. Participants consider how chapters and scenes function, develop opening hooks and goals, and explore ways to draft and redraft effectively. Teaching combines lectures, guided discussion and constructive feedback workshops. The course also considers how projects reach an ending, how to clarify a manuscript’s direction or proposal, and possible publication-related next steps.
What you'll learn
- Analyse how voice, point of view, structure and characterisation operate in a book-length project.
- Develop chapters and scenes as coherent parts of a longer narrative.
