About this course
Participants play drums and hand percussion together in an ensemble, working with rhythms rooted in West African traditions and the Afrocentric diaspora. The course covers accompanying parts, from simple patterns to more complex rhythms, and explores how interlocking parts fit together. Teaching begins with straightforward rhythms before progressing at each learner’s pace within the group. Instruments include congas, bells, bata, claves, shekere and other percussion. Learners also work with improvisation, creating variations on the rhythms they study.
What you'll learn

- Perform accompanying parts within a percussion ensemble.
