About this course

The course develops spoken Arabic through situations connected with food and dining, including discussing cuisines, speaking to a waiter and using restaurant phrases. Learners also practise talking about past events and forming questions with “what”. Teaching combines interactive group activities and role-plays with structured work on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension and listening. Lessons are conducted in Arabic, with linguistic work covering grouped words, the past tense, and plural and joint cases. A real or virtual visit to an Arabic restaurant introduces a socio-cultural element.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for Elementary Arabic learners who have already studied Arabic. The stated entry point is completion of Arabic Level 2 or at least 24 class hours, so it is not aimed at complete beginners. Participation includes group work, role-plays and communication in Arabic.

• Previous Arabic study is required, equivalent to Arabic Level 2 or at least 24 class hours.
• The teacher uses Arabic throughout the lessons, including for comprehension and listening practice.
• Learners should be prepared to take part in group activities and role-plays.
