About this course
The course combines studio teaching with observation drawing outdoors in London, weather permitting. Participants work with pencil, charcoal, graphite, pastel and watercolour while studying light, shade, tone, introductory perspective and colour. Sessions include still life, portraits, self-portrait exercises, life drawing and sketchbook work based on people, buildings and city scenes. The programme concludes with an individual drawing, painting or collage, shown in an informal exhibition alongside other participants’ work.
What you'll learn
- Apply core drawing techniques using pencil, charcoal and graphite
- Use light, shade, tone and introductory perspective to suggest three-dimensional form
- Develop observational drawing skills through still life, portrait, life and outdoor studies
- Explore pastel and watercolour approaches to colour
- Compile sketchbook studies of people, buildings and city scenes
- Produce a final drawing, painting or collage for exhibition
