Art for All - Acrylic Painting

About this course

The course introduces colour theory terminology and the principles behind mixing tones, shades and colour values. Tutor-led demonstrations are followed by experiments with colour mixing and painting techniques, allowing learners to apply their observations in a painting developed in a style of their choice. Teaching combines explanation, practical exercises and individual guidance, with peer support and discussion included. Worksheets and colour theory information are available in paper or electronic form for future reference. Assessment includes questions and answers, homework, research, critique of completed work and feedback forms.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners of all abilities and experience levels, with activities tailored to each person’s current level. Beginners are particularly welcomed. Participation includes individual and group support, peer discussion, homework, research and critique of completed work.

• The stated entry requirement is an interest in developing drawing or painting skills.
• Learners work towards an individual painting rather than a prescribed final style.

Before you go

• Participants should bring an A3 paper pad of 140gsm or heavier, an HB sketching pencil, an eraser, acrylic paints, masking tape and a range of paintbrushes.
• Worksheets and art and colour theory information are available to take away in paper or electronic form.
