A practical, studio-based painting course for all levels, using mindful creative exercises to explore artistic techniques and relaxation.

About this course

Learners take part in guided painting activities, demonstrations and individual practice, exploring colour, texture, composition and mindful observation. Teaching covers techniques using oils, acrylics and drawing materials, alongside dry and fluid media. The course also includes study of established artists, personal project work, tutor feedback, and group critiques focused on techniques and artistic choices. Assessment is informal, with progress considered through participation, developing technique and observation, rather than formal grading.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for learners at all levels and explicitly welcomes people with no previous art experience. Participation combines individual practical work with tutor guidance, group discussion and peer critique. Learners are also asked to engage with drawing and painting exercises, including work connected with the human form.

Before you go

  • The studio provides easels and access to a variety of materials.
  • Participants may be asked to bring additional personal materials as needed.
