About this course
This course traces developments in British art from the late 19th century to the end of the First World War. It considers the legacy of academic art, changing attitudes to bourgeois taste, and the influence of French, German, Italian and Russian avant-garde ideas. Teaching combines illustrated lectures with slide images and group discussion. Topics include the New English Art Club, the Camden Town Group, Roger Fry and Post-Impressionism, the Bloomsbury Group, machine culture and the effects of war on art.
