About this course

The course explores drawing, painting, collage and a changing selection of traditional and contemporary craft techniques, which may include decoupage, felt accessories, jewellery, glass and metal work. Participants examine colour, tone, composition, contrast, texture, marks and shape in two- and three-dimensional work, while developing individual projects where appropriate. Teaching usually combines visual presentations, discussion, demonstrations, written guidance and individual assistance. Sessions include opportunities to discuss and show work, with constructive responses from the tutor and other participants. The programme is intended to be guided partly by the interests of the group.

What you'll learn

  • Experiment with marks, shape, tone and colour across different art activities.
  • Use varied materials and techniques to produce images and objects.
  • Develop individual projects and explore personal approaches to subject matter.
  • Discuss artwork and practise constructive self-critique.
