About this course

The course examines how casting and drama-school auditions work, how to select and approach material, and what may be expected in the audition room. Learners work on a classical and a contemporary piece, prepare for scene work and readings with a casting director or actor, and practise cold reading from unseen material. Teaching combines drama practice, discussion, feedback and work on audition psychology and mental preparation. The course also covers identifying suitable casting, following casting opportunities and contacting casting directors about work.

Is this course right for you?

The course welcomes learners at all levels but requires completion of at least one beginners course. It involves drama practice, discussion and work in groups and pairs, with learners expected to listen, respond to feedback, read varied texts and prepare material outside class.

• At least one beginners course must have been completed.
• New audition material needs to be learned and prepared outside class.
• Participation includes group and paired work, discussion and constructive feedback.

• Comfortable clothing should be worn.
