About this course
The course develops aural awareness through relative solfa, with activities focused on sight-singing melodies, transcribing rhythms and melodies, and recognising chord progressions and cadences in major and minor keys. Participants also work with scores to identify salient musical features and deepen their understanding of harmony. Teaching centres on practical exercises, including group singing, movement, clapping and listening. The course is intended both for personal musicianship and for learners developing a Kodály-based approach to teaching. Practice between classes is beneficial, although homework is not mandatory.
