About this course
The course examines how autobiographical material can be shaped into focused writing. Participants explore memories, conscious experience, dreams, fantasies and personal records such as photographs or diaries, then consider ways to select material, identify themes and create coherence. Teaching combines tutor presentations, in-class writing exercises, discussion and workshop feedback. Sessions also address self-exposure, betrayal and the relationship between truth and fact in autobiography. Learners may be given writing and reading exercises to complete outside class.
