About this course

The course introduces AutoCAD for Mac through step-by-step demonstrations followed by practical exercises. It covers the Mac interface, terminology, command-line and shortcut use, coordinate systems, snapping, layers and core drawing commands such as lines, arcs and circles. Participants will also work with polylines, blocks, groups, hatching, text and dimensions, then create templates and manage Model Space, Paper Space, file formats and scaled printing. The course includes individual guidance, tutorials and group discussions, with exercises focused on producing plans, elevations and section drawings.

  • Create 2D plans, elevations and section drawings to scale
  • Use drawing commands, coordinate systems, object snapping, shortcuts and the command line

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners who can read technical drawings and use a computer, including moving files around a system. No prior AutoCAD experience is needed. Familiarity with macOS may be advantageous, and participants should be able to follow simple instructions, use basic measurements and take part in group discussions and tutorials.

  • Basic understanding of plans, elevations and sections is expected.
  • Simple measurements, calculations, ratios and scale form part of the required background.
  • Homework is assigned after the first two classes.
  • The course includes group discussions alongside individual tutorials and guidance.
