About this course
The course introduces AutoCAD’s Windows interface and the essential tools used to produce 2D plans, elevations and sections. Topics include drawing commands, coordinate systems, object snapping, layers, polylines, hatching, blocks, text and dimension styles, templates, and the distinction between Model Space and Paper Space. Teaching combines step-by-step demonstrations with practical exercises, group discussions and individual guidance. Learners also practise using the command line and shortcuts, saving files in different formats, and plotting or printing drawings to scale.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners who have no previous AutoCAD experience but understand basic technical drawings, including plans, elevations and sections. Learners should be able to use a computer, move files, follow simple instructions, work with basic measurements and ratios, and take part in group discussions and tutorials.
- The Windows interface may suit learners already familiar with Windows or moving from Mac to Windows
- Basic English is needed to follow verbal instructions and read handouts and health and safety information
- Homework is assigned after the first two classes
