About this course
Training covers classical and contemporary dance techniques through ballet classes, full-body conditioning, variations and repertoire from different ballets. Participants work on alignment, body control, foot and ankle strength, flexibility, mobility, stamina and endurance, with exercises linked to injury prevention and maintenance. The course also introduces ballet’s history, dancers’ lifestyles, nutrition and careers in dance. Teaching includes solo and ensemble choreography, with performance technique developed through work on a range of classical and contemporary pieces.
What you'll learn
- Apply principles of bodily alignment and control in ballet technique.
- Develop strength in the feet and ankles for allegro and, where appropriate, pointe work.
- Perform solo and group choreography drawn from different ballets.
- Use exercises that develop flexibility, strength and mobility.
- Identify elements of dancers’ lifestyles, nutrition and potential careers in dance.

The course is intended for beginners through to improvers, including learners with up to one year of experience. Beginners are explicitly welcome. Participation involves full-body conditioning, ballet technique, contemporary or jazz work, and both solo and group choreography.
