Ballroom Dance Classes for Beginners

About this course

The course introduces both Standard Ballroom and Latin Ballroom, with dances including Waltz, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Quickstep and Foxtrot. Teaching breaks steps and techniques into manageable sections, using choreography, rhythm and music to develop movement, posture and timing. Participants practise the roles of leader and follower, changing partners during the class. The course focuses on the physical signals, coordination and timing used to guide or respond to a partner, while applying basic steps in a social group setting.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for adults with little or no dance experience, including complete newcomers. Participation involves group learning, partner practice and rotating roles between leading and following. A personal partner is not required, as participants change partners during the class.

Before you go

• Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, such as smart-casual clothing or activewear.
• Smooth-soled shoes are described as ideal for turning and gliding.
