About this course

The course develops bass guitar technique through scales, arpeggios, rhythm, tempo, phrasing and harmony. Learners apply music theory in practical exercises, read basic chord symbols and improvise bass accompaniments in contemporary styles. Teaching combines tutor explanations and demonstrations with accompanied playing on bass guitar or piano. Handouts support each lesson, and a pre-recorded CD is provided for practice at home. The course also addresses the bass player’s role when performing with other musicians.
