About this course

The course introduces Zoom’s main functions, from joining meetings and choosing an account type to setting up and hosting sessions. Learners practise using chat, breakout rooms, screen and file sharing, meeting messages, invitations and host controls. Teaching is step by step, with tutor guidance and opportunities to complete tasks independently and with other learners. The course also covers meeting etiquette, online safety and ways to avoid common technical problems.

  • Join and navigate a Zoom meeting
  • Use chat, breakout rooms, screen sharing, file sharing and meeting messages
  • Set up a meeting, invite participants and manage host responsibilities
  • Apply Zoom etiquette, including muting and raising a hand
  • Identify suitable Zoom account types and meeting uses
  • Recognise ways to improve safety and resolve common meeting problems

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners who are new or nearly new to Zoom and have some basic digital and computing skills. Participation includes individual tasks and activities with other learners, with tutor guidance. Work outside class is required.

Before you go

  • Learners should bring a pen, lined A4 paper and a file for keeping their work.
  • Handouts and a Google Classroom access code are provided.
  • Google Classroom is used to communicate with classmates and access online materials and videos.
  • Work outside class is required.
