Becoming confident with online communication: Zoom (beginner)

About this course

The course introduces Zoom through guided, step-by-step tasks. Participants examine the Zoom interface, consider different account types and practise joining, setting up and hosting meetings, including inviting others and managing hosts. Sessions cover chat, breakout rooms, screen and file sharing, meeting etiquette, security and common problems. Learning takes place through individual and group activities, with tutor guidance and opportunities to practise tasks. Google Classroom is used for additional work and online materials.

• Choose an appropriate Zoom account for different uses

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners who are new or nearly new to Zoom and who have some basic digital and computing skills. Participation includes working independently and with other students on guided tasks, with additional work outside class.

• Suitable for learners developing their first experience of hosting Zoom meetings
• Includes individual and group tasks rather than tutor demonstration alone
• Requires some work outside class using Google Classroom

Before you go

• Bring a pen, lined A4 paper and a file for keeping work.
• Handouts and a Google Classroom code are provided for accessing online materials and communicating with classmates.
