Beginners Evening

About this course

The course introduces pottery on the wheel through a staged progression. Participants begin by forming a pot from a ball of clay, then develop their throwing technique by making a cylinder before moving on to a bowl. Later sessions cover trimming and glazing, allowing learners to work through the main stages of making wheel-thrown pottery. Classes are focused and limited to eight adult participants, with each learner working at an individual potter’s wheel.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for adults who are new to pottery as well as those with previous experience. It is taught in a small group, with each participant working individually at a potter’s wheel. Learners should be able to attend every class, as missed sessions cannot be made up.

Before you go

• All materials are included, including studio stoneware clay and access to stoneware glazes.
• Each participant is provided with a potter’s wheel.
• The best six pots can be fired and glazed.
• Additional pieces made during the course can be purchased.
