About this course
Participants develop core metalworking skills through a sequence of copper projects, working with cutting, filing, sanding, forming, texturing, drilling, polishing and silver soldering. Sample projects include a cut-out pendant, ring, textured domed earrings and a chain section. The course then moves towards designing and making an original jewellery piece using the techniques practised earlier. Teaching combines demonstrations for the group and individual learners, with opportunities for group discussion and feedback. Health and safety procedures are also covered, including safe use of machinery.

The course is intended for complete beginners and for learners who have taken a short jewellery-making taster course. The format includes demonstrations to the group and to individuals, alongside group discussion and feedback, before learners develop their own jewellery piece.

Before you go
- Copper sheet and wire are provided in reasonable quantities.
- Silver for the final piece is purchased separately; learners are shown how to source it and estimate its cost.
- Sensible footwear is required. Sandals, open shoes and small pumps are not permitted.
- Learners may bring their own apron and safety glasses.
