About this course

The course develops French for everyday situations involving travel, work, leisure and short conversations with French-speaking locals or friends. Learners practise discussing preferences, making arrangements, handling emergencies and talking about events in the present, future and past. Teaching centres on spoken interaction, with listening practice, pair and group work, role plays and games. Grammar is revised and extended, with some writing used to reinforce learning. Presentations, hand-outs, audio-visual material and online French-language resources support the sessions.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners who have completed French Stage 1 Unit 2 or equivalent previous learning. As a Beginner (A1) course, it focuses on extending foundational language through spoken interaction, pair and group activities, and regular practice. Homework and good attendance are recommended.

• Previous learning equivalent to French Stage 1 Unit 2 is expected.
• Learners should be prepared to take part in spoken pair and group activities.

Before you go

• Bring a pen, paper and a small folder.
• An online dictionary can be used in class, or learners may bring their own vocabulary resource or digital device.
• The class will discuss whether a course book should be used.
