What Beginner (A1) Italian means

At A1 Italian, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

  • Introduce yourself

    Mi chiamo Anna. Abito a Londra.

    My name is Anna. I live in London.

  • Order in a café

    Vorrei un caffè, per favore.

    I would like a coffee, please.

  • Ask for directions

    Scusi, dov’è la stazione?

    Excuse me, where is the station?

About this course

The course introduces core Italian vocabulary and grammar through a communicative format focused on speaking and listening. Learners practise introductions, everyday conversations, travel arrangements, shopping and other situations involving goods and services, while also discussing present and past events. Teaching includes pair work, group activities, role plays and games, supported by presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources. Reading practice uses short everyday texts, with attention to understanding their general meaning.
