About this course
Participants rehearse a varied selection of pieces chosen by the conductor, exploring jazz styles and the roles of different instruments within a large ensemble. Sessions include full-band playing and occasional section work, with attention to sight-reading, jazz phrasing, syncopated rhythms and simple improvisation over chord sequences. Teaching combines conductor-led rehearsal, teacher feedback and ongoing self-evaluation. The course also includes work on playing as part of a section and an informal performance for friends and family.
