About this course
The course develops blues guitar playing through rhythm and lead licks, common chord progressions, Jazz and Blues standards, scales and the technique of playing the changes. It also introduces theory that connects blues and jazz approaches. Teaching combines group playing with individual feedback and periods of solo practice. Participants work on two songs, explore different approaches to improvisation and learn to use musician terminology relevant to jam settings.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for guitarists who already have some experience and are developing beyond fundamental playing skills. Participants should be able to read chord and tab diagrams, change between chords and play basic melodies or riffs. Lessons involve group playing alongside individual feedback and solo practice.
- Previous guitar experience is expected
- Reading chord and tab diagrams is required
- Some basic melody or riff playing is expected
- Good spoken and written English is required
Before you go
- Participants must bring their own acoustic or electric guitar.
- Electric guitar players must bring a small personal amplifier.
- Participants should bring water, a notebook and a pen.
