About this course
The course introduces Brazilian Portuguese through everyday communication, including greetings, introductions, personal information, family, routines, time, leisure activities and ordering in cafés or restaurants. It also considers formal and colloquial language, idiomatic expressions and differences between Brazilian Portuguese and other varieties, particularly European Portuguese. Teaching combines spoken interaction with pair work, group work, role plays, games, presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources. Grammar includes the verbs to be, to have and to go, present and near-future tenses, and regular and irregular verb conjugations. Learners develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, with homework recommended for consolidation.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for complete beginners in Portuguese and uses spoken interaction alongside pair and group activities, role plays and games. Previous knowledge of Portuguese is not required, although learners who have studied Spanish, French, Italian or Romanian are specifically recommended. Homework is highly recommended.
