Bridging from ESOL to Functional Skills: speaking & listening (level 1)

About this course

The course develops spoken English for everyday situations. Participants practise understanding the main points in short conversations and spoken instructions, speaking clearly in simple sentences, and asking and answering questions. Learning activities include discussions and scenarios such as speaking to a child’s teacher or requesting information from a local service. Tutor guidance and opportunities to work at an individual pace are included, with the course intended to support progression towards Getting Ready for Functional Skills English.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for ESOL learners at Beginner (A1) level who are developing everyday speaking and listening skills. Participants should expect to practise in simple conversations and take part in group discussions, with the course serving as preparation for a subsequent Getting Ready or Functional Skills course.
