About this course

The workshop revisits coplas one to four of Sevillanas, with attention to variations, stylistic detail and performance approach. Participants learn through tutor-demonstrated movement patterns, repetition and guided practice, responding to flamenco and Spanish dance rhythms with stamping, clapping and sequences, with or without castanets. Teaching is available in the studio or via live stream. The session includes opportunities for discussion and tutor feedback, and a recording is provided to support practice afterwards.

What you'll learn

  • Demonstrate all four coplas of Sevillanas.
  • Develop coordination, strength, flexibility and stamina through Sevillanas practice.
  • Perform the four coplas with greater stylistic detail and personal expression.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is intended for improver, intermediate and advanced flamenco or Sevillanas dancers, rather than those starting from scratch. It involves sustained physical activity, including movement, stamping and clapping, with exercises adaptable to particular physical or learning needs. Participants should also be prepared to practise using recap resources outside the session.

  • Some previous experience of dancing Sevillanas is expected.
  • The practical work involves continuous physical activity.
  • Exercises can be adjusted for particular physical or learning needs.
  • The session can be attended in the studio or live-streamed.

Before you go

  • Flamenco shoes for women and flamenco boots for men are required.
  • Wear a flamenco skirt, or trousers that allow movement, and a fitted top.
  • Fans, shawls and castanets may be brought for optional use.
  • Bring a notebook and screw-top bottled water.
  • A video of the workshop is provided for home practice.
