Build your photography portfolio

About this course

Participants examine how portfolios can serve different audiences, including commercial clients, editorial commissioners, universities, galleries and websites. They review existing images through tutorials and peer groups, identify gaps, create additional work where needed, and develop greater visual consistency across the portfolio. Teaching combines demonstrations, short lectures, image reviews, handouts and small-group practical exercises. The course also covers preparing files and layouts for PDF, web and print portfolios, using digital tools such as Photoshop, Lightroom and Affinity, and presenting the finished portfolio to the class.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improvers who already have a reasonably cohesive body of photographic work and are comfortable working with images digitally. Participation includes peer review, tutorials, small-group exercises and presenting a portfolio to the class.

• A substantial existing body of work is expected
• Digital image-handling experience is advantageous
• The course includes group feedback and an in-class presentation

Before you go

• Bring a collection of your own work on a USB stick, hard drive or cloud drive ready for download.
• Bring a digital SLR or mirrorless camera, an SD card and charged batteries. Cameras are also available to borrow during the sessions.
• Bring a notebook and pen.
• Google Classroom is used to share comments, download course materials and upload images for group feedback.
