About this course

The course examines how a fashion collection is shaped from an initial idea into a coherent range. Participants define its purpose and target market, research themes, and establish a visual direction through colour palettes, fabrics, materials and silhouettes. They then create a storyboard to organise the collection’s scale, variety and relationship between looks. The design stage involves selecting, adapting and refining garments to produce a balanced collection, with consideration of how the work can be presented in a folio or runway context. Both womenswear and menswear are covered.

What you'll learn

  • Define a collection’s purpose and target market
  • Use research to develop a theme and establish a palette, fabric, material and silhouette direction
  • Create a storyboard that communicates the collection’s scale, variety and cohesion
  • Select, adapt and refine designs into a balanced fashion collection
